Qahwa-Dinercafe, First Breakfast Story of the month(Delhi)

More Space at Qahwa-Dinercafe
More Space at Qahwa-Dinercafe

Right in front of IIT gate, Qahwa Dinercafe opens its door at 7 AM. One look at the variety of food and amount of space they have, you know, they’re hitting the right note. This outlet is 3 months old now and attracts a lot of students. The café has good number of covers and enjoys the luxury of balcony seating as well. The décor is basic and neatly done up.

More Spaces

I visited the café this morning for Breakfast; I was impressed till the time I was looking at the menu. However it’s really unfortunate when the staff doesn’t know the menu and seems indifferent. Ms. Shikha (the owner) came to save the moment by stepping in. She recommended few dishes to me and took my order. Coming back to the food and my Breakfast story, my order from the range of Breakfast options was:

  • 3 Idiots

  • Icy Green Ginger

  • Almonds and Honey cake

Almond and Honey Cake

3 idiots, Middle-Eastern breakfast staple, the dish is prepared with onion, tomato and tangy salsa as a base with 3 eggs that are fired on top of it. It’s served with the brown bread toast and butter. It’s a version of sunny side up where the eggs yolks are cooked through. The eggs are seasoned with pepper and it’s relatively healthy as well. The flavors are balanced and tasty. This is a really filling meal.

Icy green Ginger is a chiller infused with green tea, fresh ginger and mint leaves. This drink is very refreshing. I really enjoy having the hot version of the same drink but the Iced version was equally appetizing. Since I had to repeatedly request them to switch on the Air conditioner, this was a much-needed drink.

Almonds and Honey cake was another recommendation by the owner. It turned out to be just a perfect note to end the meal with. The cake was moist and warm. The flavors of the cake were perfect for a slight nip in the air (or the AC was finally on). Almonds dipped in honey and a nice pound cake can make anyone happy.

My bill came up to Rs 600 inclusive of all taxes.

I really enjoyed my breakfast here; the food was good, ambience was comfortable and their pricing is another highlight. Having said that, they need to work on their service.

Shikha’s love for Tea and Coffee gave birth to Qahwa (also the name of traditional Kashmiri tea) and now she is delving into the food business as well. With a good location among other things, she’s got right things in her kitty.

I am glad I started my series of Breakfast Stories from Qahwa-Dinercafe; it has set the tone correct.

HERO of the story:

  • Gives discounts to IIT students and its right in front of their campus.
  • Offers good variety of Breakfast, Smoothies, Shakes and Teas.
  • The café is very spacious and is pocket friendly.

VILLIAN of the story:

  • The service is poor; nothing can be more unfortunate than indifferent staff.
  • Too many choices can confuse you and if you’re a vegetarian you have only 3 dishes to choose from (from the breakfast menu).
