Places to eat in Meherchand Market
If you’re around Lodhi Colony, driving towards Meherchand Market, chances are you’ll spot photographers at almost every intersection. Thanks to the beautiful street art and colourful graffiti on the walls, Meherchand attracts a lot of young crowd. Therefore, the food options here, are varied. Once, just a friendly neighbourhood market, today it is a distant cousin to Delhi’s plush Khan Market, as they’re both centrally located.
However, even today, Meherchand still has lots of old style Kiriana stores, tailor shops and sweet shops. Despite a shop for organic vegetables and produce, one can buy vegetables straight from a hawker, as well. From a Rosogolla to a Cheese Kunafa, there are plenty of things to try here.
Below mentioned are some of the dishes that I love to eat when I am in Meherchand Market. Read on:
Ganesh Sweets and Restaurant
Address: 19, Meherchand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 100 only
For your quintessential Chaat outing, Ganesh should be your go-to place. The place serves delish Bhalla Papdi, Golgappe, Aloo tikki and variety of sweets. However it’s the Samosa Chaat that I absolutely love. Crushed samosas with choley, onions, saunth and dhaniya chutney, it’s like a meal for one person. I am not a huge fan of Samose – Choley combination, but over here they make it really nice. Instead of soupy chole, they top the samosa with chole that are served with bhature, and that most certainly makes this chaat so special.
M.I. Food Center
Address: 43,Lodhi road, Meharchand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi, Delhi 110003
Cost for two: Rs 300
Just like me, if you also think that a plate of kebab fixes all the worries in the world, then head over to M. I. Food Center at Meherchand Market. When the shutters open in the vening, this shop is at it’s the busiest. With Seekh Kebabs, Tikkas, Tangris and Khameeris, this is your one stop shop for all things meaty, juicy and tasty. The portions are big and the kebabs are flavoursome.
Juneja’s Eating Plaza
Address: 74, Meherchand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 500
I can’t recall the number of times I have been to this eatery. Simply put, they make THE BEST Chicken Tikka in Delhi. They make fantastic Butter Chicken, Malai Chicken Roll, Rarah Chicken and even Paneer Tikka. Believe me, you can keep coming back here just for a plate of the juicy, tender, flavourful Chicken tikka. Even when I visit this place in a group, I order a plate for myself. The staff is nice and friendly and if you love old style humble dining experiences, this is the place to be.
Elma’s Brasserie
Address: 73, Meharchand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 2000
If you’re in the mood for some High-Tea, head over to the quaint little Elma’s brasserie. Yummy nibbles such as Scones, Sandwiches, Cream, Preserves along with some fine Tea, are just what you want to have over some fun conversation with friends. Visit either for Eggs Benedict for breakfast or Chicken Florentine for dinner or Coffee and walnut Cake for dessert, there’s a lot to relish here.
DIVA Spiced
Address: 79 & 80, Meharchand Market, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 2000
I love sweet-sour-spicy combination and all flavours oriental. I have been a fan of both Chef Ritu Dalmia and Chef Anumitra, and I love how they’ve clubbed different Southeast Asian flavours for various dishes at DIVA Spiced. I absolutely loved Chili Caramel Fish, perfectly cooked filleted fish with namjim (Thai sauce) with peanuts and lightly seared greens (bok choy). Served with fresh greens and lime, the sweet-tangy-spicy flavours made this dish a stunner. They serve Meal in a Bowl, Big Plates, Asian Bao Burgers and Dumplings too. Also do try the softest and aptly sweet Japanese Cheesecake with Apricot glaze.
Altitude Café and Deli
Address: 116, Meher Chand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 1500
Your search for healthy, gluten-free or vegan food ends here. With numerous options to choose from, their menu offers numerous treats. They serve Pizzas, Salads, Quiches, Burgers, Meal Plates and freshly squeezed juices. I had a wholesome bowl of Green Leaf & Zucchini Salad with beans, peppers, vinaigrette Salad and a yummy Apple-Carrot-Beetroot Juice. They’re open for breakfast and trust me you don’t want to miss out on that.
Kunafa
Address – 70, Mehar Chand Market, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi
Cost for two: Rs 300
Dessert parlour for delicious Turkish and Middle Eastern sweets. Get one of the finest Cheese Kunafas or Baklavas under one roof. Turkish Delight in Vanilla, Pistachio and Rose flavour are quite a hit here and so is the Halloumi Cheese Kunafa. I loved Bird’s Nest Pistachio Baklava and Rolled Phyllo Bakalava. Enjoy a bite of Turkish Delight with a cup of Turkish Tea at this unique place or just drop by to buy box full of Turkish Figs, Dates and Date Cookies.
Superhit Pizza Cart
Address: Right across Kunafa, on the road near the red light.
Cost for two – Rs 300
I remember going for a Football match at JLN Stadium, which got over late at night. All the eateries in Meherchand (a stone’s throw away from JLN Stadium) were shut. This roadside Pizza Cart was still functional and was dishing out Pizzas. The cart starts operating in the evening and has variety of veg pizzas in three different sizes. They aren’t your gourmet pizzas (obviously), but they’re saucy and cheesy and once in a while, who wouldn’t like that? It’s also perfect for that time of the month, when you’re not left with much dough.
There was once Bhane also where one could go for pizzas, however it’s shut down (temporarily due to ceiling). The the bona fide coolest place in the market, right above the clothing store, Bhane served ice creams, coffee and pizzas. A scoop of Salted Caramel Ice cream or a Strawberry Goat Cheese Ice cream or Fondue leek Pizza, you could spend a day here with friends playing video games, board games or just eating some delicious ice creams.
