Burger Singh is King | Gurgaon
Move away Burger King. And make way for Burger Singh!
For the longest time, if there was one place that I had been dying to go to, it was Burger Singh. I believe some of the stand-alones and independent chains, are doing far better a job at reinventing burgers, than the big international chains.
And Burger Singh seems like a perfect example for this. No more than a small counter, Nipun Sudan and two other partners started Burger Singh, as a fun, quirky and unabashedly desi burger joint.
So, on an unusually overcast and windy summer afternoon, I landed up there. The menu had all of 10 types of burgers along with various fries, appetizers and combo meals. Interestingly put together, the branding, packaging and the presentation is worth a mention. I ordered for:
1) United States of Punjab Chicken Burger (Rs. 177)
2) Bihari Gosht Burger (Rs. 203)
3) Moroccan fries (Rs 71)
The Bihari Gosht Burger had a mutton patty covered in an authentic Bihari mutton curry cheese, Bihari Spicy sauce and caramelized onions. The burger bun looked big in appearance, but it was one of the lightest ones ever. Freshly baked, it had a great taste of its own. The patty was succulent and the in-house spicy curry sauce added a rustic flavour to the burger. Perfect for those who like it chilly and spicy.
Then came my favourite amongst the two, The United States of Punjab Chicken burger. It had a chicken patty covered in caramelized onions, cheese and tandoori mayo. The chicken patty was tender, juicy and similar to the flavours of chicken tandoori tikka. The tandoori mayo was oozing out of the burger, which was further enhanced with the taste of caramalised onions. A dash of kasoori methi added the perfect local flavour, making it a clear winner!
And how can one have burgers without fries? They have got some really interesting flavours in fries. I opted for fries flavoured in Moroccan lemon pepper. The herby, spicy, lemony seasoning, on the crunchiest fries was just beyond brilliant.
In case you’re watching your weight and looking to indulge for once, just go ahead and cheat for one day with a meal like this. It will totally be worth it.
The bill came up to Rs. 510, inclusive of all taxes.
Prediction: Neeru Singh will often be found at Burger Singh. 🙂
